Anyone can learn to play the drums. If you are interested and committed then you're already on your way. An experienced, qualified, and enthusiastic teacher, I will foster your curiosity while guiding you to your goals.

I have 20 years of drumming experience in a wide range of styles. I have taught individuals of all ages and abilities. I have a degree in Jazz Performance (Humber College, Toronto) and a Bachelor of Arts degree (University of British Columbia, Vancouver). I have performed across Canada and the UK, participated in many recording sessions, and continue to perform regularly in clubs, theatres, concert halls and outdoor stages.

DRUM LESSONS IN VANCOUVER
I offer drum lessons in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

I do not teach from one particular method book. Each student has a unique way of learning and there are many educational resources available. I will guide you to the information that is right for you, following general principles while being flexible to your needs and goals.

With younger players, I promote the foundations of good technique while keeping drumming interesting and fun.  More mature students are encouraged to explore their own voice while focusing on the importance of sound, feel, and musicianship.

Topics and objectives for all students include:

• having fun
• playing with confidence
• fluid and relaxed technique
• solid reading skills
• dynamics and phrasing
• fluency in a variety of styles
• understanding time and feel
• playing effectively with other musicians
• drumset coordination
• polyrhythms
• improvisation
• snare drum rudiments
• music theory and ear training

SCHEDULING AND RATES
Ongoing students are scheduled for once-per-week lessons, at the same time each week.
Lessons are payable by cash or cheque at the first regularly scheduled lesson of each month.

30 minute lesson: $20 each
45 minute lesson: $30 each
60 minute lesson: $40 each

Clinics, workshops or lessons scheduled on an "as required" basis are also available - contact me to discuss.

THE FINE PRINT

• As the lesson time is only reserved for you or your child, there are no refunds or deductions for cancelled or missed lessons. However, with one weeks notice, a regularly scheduled lesson may be re-scheduled.
• Every effort will be made to re-schedule lessons missed due to unanticipated illnesses or other unforseen circumstances.
• If lessons are to be terminated, one months' notice is required.
• Informational support is offered pro bono to parents/students on an as needed basis (ie. lesson clarification, motivational/encouragement ideas, discuss progress/goals, etc.)
